History of Jarvie School
Jarvie School first opened its doors to students in 1921. The original school was housed in the Cushing Mill Recreation Building. The school prospered during its early years and became a center of amalgamation for surrounding districts. In 1943, three classrooms were constructed on the present site. This was followed by a four-classroom building in 1963, a two-room portable in 1967 and a one-room portable in 1970. Jarvie itself fell victim to amalgamation when its high school students were bused to Westlock in 1959. In 1976, a further re-organization occurred with the schools in the Dapp/Jarvie attendance areas. Dapp became the designated school for students in grades 1 to 6 and Jarvie hosted students in grade 7 to 9 in addition to Kindergarten. Kindergarten students were transferred to Dapp after the completion of the new Dapp school in 1989. The re-organization of the Dapp/Jarvie schools also led to the demotion of the original Jarvie School and the modernization of the 1963 building. The 1980 modernization and the two-room portable stand as the Jarvie School of today.
